An Unfortunate Reunion

All The Pretty Horses- pg. 132-180:

So I'm guessing not many people were expecting this. Blevins was taken into the woods like an animal and shot! Oh well, I guess that's the western story one should expect. Speaking of which, this occurrence begs the question: In which part of the quest cycle are we? Is this death of Blevins the abysmal low point in the circle? Will things get better from here? Will our hero ever be reunited with his love? Tune in next time to find out!

Similarly, if this book ends like Seinfeld did (with everyone sitting in jail), I don't know how fond of the book I would be. Oh and I'm still not quite seeing the relationship between John Grady Cole and Jesus Christ. Goodness, so many questions!

But from an analytical standpoint, I think this section represents the boys' realization of the world around them, and how it can be more dangerous than they expected. John Grady left his home because he felt there was nothing left for him in Texas, but now he is realizing that nothing may be better than a bad thing.
