I have recently started a book entitled The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and I am about 100 pages into it. The storyline takes place in Sweden, as it was written by Swedish author Stieg Larsson (1954-2004), and was translated from Swedish into English in 2008. The novel follows the story of Lisbeth Salander, a private detective, and Mikael Blomkvist, an investigative reporter, and their exploits in solving the supposed murder of a corporate heiress. Although the mystery in this story is captivating, what is truly interesting about this book is its history:
Larsson completed all of the books of the "Millennium Trilogy" ( The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest) at once, with three quarters of a fourth book completed. Unfortunately, Larsson died in 2004, leaving his father, brother, and long-time girlfriend with an invalid will. Controversy has stirred from his death because he was not close with his father nor his brother, and it was most likely intended that the money go to his girlfriend. However, because they were not married, she is unable to receive any of the profits from the novels, and the money is given to his father and brother. Eva Gabrielsson (the girlfriend), however, is in possession of the incomplete version of the fourth novel, and it is her decision whether to have it published. That's the kind of stuff that gets made into a novel. And then remade into a movie.
